about
It's a classic country title that's never been exploited. Until now.
Old school, traditional, throwback...whatever they call "real" country is as about as far away from today's Nashville pipeline as you can get. "Burnin' the Bottle" name checks Johnny Cash, Capt. Morgan and Jim Beam in its breathless three-minute sprint. Stinging Telecaster licks provide the twang, and Bob Wire's strident vocals drive home this story about a guy who seeks the answer to his problems at the bottom of a glass.
lyrics
Burnin’ the Bottle (at Both Ends)
I wake up in the morning with a powerful thirst
Stumble to the kitchen, pop the top on my first
A couple beers for breakfast gets me where I need to be
If it’s good enough for Johnny, it’s good enough for me
I make a pot of coffee and pour it into a Thermos
Add a shot of bourbon ‘cause the caffeine makes me nervous
Work all day, then head home for a shower
Then I’m out the door for the nearest happy hour
Chorus
One drink (bomp bomp) then another
Here’s to dad (bomp bomp) here’s to your mother
Another round? (bomp bomp) Hell yeah, brother
I drink to all my enemies and I drink to my friends
When tomorrow comes I’ll turn around and do it all again
‘Cause I’m burnin’ the bottle at both ends
Just got paid today, I’m gonna let her rip
But stapled to my paycheck was a big ol’ pink slip
Now I can’t afford to pay my child support
Clouds are rolling in, think I’d better have a snort
I get myself some therapy from Dr. Jim Beam
I tell him about my fears, and I talk about my dreams
Bartender takes my glass and I grab her by the wrist
“Go tell Capt. Morgan that I’m ready to enlist”
Chorus
